Geographically, the medieval town of Orchha is located in the Bundelkhand region along the river Betwa. The capital of Bundela rulers is a landlocked town and primarily fed by river Betwa. River Betwa also called as the Vetravati flows down from the the mountains of North India. It meanders through the plains to enter Madhya Pradesh from the west and flow through Orchha. The confluence of the Betwa and the Yamuna Rivers takes place in the Hamirpur town, in the vicinity of Orchha.
Orchha is perched at a higher altitude and little away from the wooded countryside. The places is surrounded by Dhak forest. It is situated at a distance of 16 km. from the southeast of Jhansi and 120 kms. from Gwalior. The best time to visit Orchha is from October to March.
