Welcome to Orchha Hotels / Hotels in Orchha

Orchha, a medieval city placed on the banks of river Betwa literally means a 'hidden place'. Today this little village under deep slumber has wonderfully preserved the spirit of its illustrious past. Adorned with splendid temples, cenotaphs, striking forts, chhatris, the capital of the Bundela Kingdom breathes history in every detail. The glorious monuments of 16th and 17th centuries built by the aesthetically inclined Bundela rulers hold lingering echoes of its rich history-a heady mix of war and peace, creation and destruction.

History of OrchhaSteeped in rich history, little is known about the rich historical past of the city of Orchha. The early part of 17th century witnessed a fierce battle between the Mughal Army under the leadership of the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and his opponent led by Raja Jujhar Singh. This vicious battle added a new chapter to the pages of the history of the city when Orchha was ceded by the Mughals who ruled over for consecutive six years that began in 1641 A.D.
